CCTechTours grew out of student drive and initiative, and a realization that there’s no time like the present to investigate the future. Armed with networking resources and curiosity, CCTechTours create opportunities for students to visit, tour, and engage with companies that align with the program’s diverse pedagogy. CCTechTours hopes to expand student understanding of what roles are available in “the real world” and create networking infrastructure to aid in career development.
Great question. It’s probably a legend and a secret we’re not allowed to tell you. But we do know the initiative is run through the Communication, Culture and Technology Program (hence “CCT”), the initiative is centered on visiting exciting companies (hence “tour”), and the tours were initially designed to engage students in corporate tech opportunities they might have not previously known existed (hence “tech.) That said, we don’t discriminate, and enjoy networking with any organization that value’s CCT’s interdisciplinary mission.
CCTechTours runs site visits throughout the academic year, predominantly in Washington DC, home of Georgetown University and the CCT program. Every spring break, the core team organizes a trip to another city to cast our net even further and do some good ole’ fashion vacation networking! While DC is our nation’s capital, we are excited to look beyond the district and explore burgeoning tech cities across the country.
Techtours are completely student run and voluntarily managed. A core TechTour team manages research, planning, communications and logistics, and you can meet the team here. Students are always encouraged to get involved through helping find new companies to visit, and the core team management is open to any interested student at the start of each semester. If you have more questions about involvement, please contact the current team.
Given CCT’s interdisciplinary coursework and professional pathways, alumni engage in a vast diversity of careers, from the State Department to Media Production, Data Analytics to Design. If a company looks at the concentric circles of Communication, Culture, and Technology, we’re probably excited to visit. Tours are often developed through partnerships with CCT alums in their current employment, and the core team seeks to represent a variety of sectors.
Once a tour is booked, the core team emails current CCT students to announce the date, location, and provide registration details. Tours are often limited to fifteen students, so they fill up fast! Once you’re registered for the tour, the core team leader will reach out with follow up details. If you’re a current student, you’ve probably already heard from us via email!
